An app template is a template that can be used for creating apps.
When users use an app template to create an app, the settings defined in the template are preemptively applied to the new app. Users can customize the settings if necessary, and quickly activate the app.

You save an app template as a file somewhere outside of kintone (for example, in your PC), or register it in kintone, so that you can utilize it. Described below are advantages you get in each case.

You can save an app template as a zip file in a location outside of kintone (e.g., on your PC). Since this template file can be imported to different kintone domains, you can utilize it to share app settings with other kintone domains.

For example, suppose that you want to consult with someone outside your company regarding the app settings. In such case, you can download an app template file and send it to that person. By doing so, that person can create an app with the same settings in his/her kintone environment, which enables smooth communication between you and that person.
